Ruby and Conrad's Paliku Gardens Wedding in Hawaii
Written by Dhana Small
This Kualoa Ranch Wedding was full of surprises, literally. We actually had to let the family know we had no more time for more surprises at one point because there was literally so much they wanted to do for Ruby and Conrad. We could have gone on for days. How many people can say that?! It was definitely one for the books but here’s how their love story began...
Conrad was a freshman in college and in the Filipino club at CSUN, which had an outreach program to tend to the local high schools. It was here unknowingly, Conrad would meet the woman he would spend the rest of his life with. However, Conrad had a job to do and a girlfriend at the time and Ruby was taken, also. They parted ways until a few years later when they spotted each other again at a local bar.
Ruby’s friend actually spotted Conrad sitting by himself and Ruby crossed the bar to approach him. They'd both broken up with their old significant others and...I feel like we all know where this is going...
The two shared a look, a laugh, and a high-five; and “from then on, we had the most unconventional yet perfect relationship we had been waiting for, for our entire life.”
Ruby invited Conrad to an afterparty and allegedly initiated their first kiss. Conrad took the advice of ladies man, Trent Walker, from his favorite movie Swingers, and waited three days before calling and it seems as though the rest is history.
***Can I just say - guys - this will be the only time this works so don’t try this at home! In today's world a gal will totally forget about you 72 hours later!
After the engagement, Conrad’s mom kiddingly suggested Hawaii as the venue for their wedding and after doing a little research, it was a no-brainer.
That’s where we come in. It was hard to pin-point the best memory of this wedding. There were so many heartfelt and emotional surprises that filled the night it was almost impossible to narrow it down to one.
They decided on a first look in the "valley" area at Kualoa Ranch and it was nothing short of epic. This area is surrounded by mountains on 3 sides and ocean on the 4th. It's something out of a movie (several actually, but who's counting!).
The ceremony was held at Paliku Gardens at Kualoa Ranch. The circle arch from plant Hawai’i was perfect for this tropical Hawai’i wedding at Kualoa Ranch. The arch framed “chinaman’s hat” - the famous little island you see pictured. Kualoa ranch is known for its epic mountain backdrops and breathtaking ocean views.
They opted for a clear top tent with twinkle lighting and real pineapple centerpieces with local tropical flowers for the reception.
Their favorite singer, Gabe Bondoc, surprised them with a serenade for their first dance, followed by surprises from the bridesmaids and even a song sung by the groom.
All in all - it was absolutely perfect, although, Conrad wished he would've said his vows first because Ruby killed it.
In the past two years, they have experienced pregnancy mood swings, a screaming baby and a pandemic. Here are a few words of wisdom to all newlyweds out there:
"Have spare room to seek refuge every once in a while and be ready to compromise. You won’t always be right and sometimes you have to admit that (even if you are). No matter how angry you get at each other, always try and laugh it off. “If not, imagine your spouse’s angry face and a monkey throwing poop at it.”
Welp - there's that! Ha!
